Domestic Terrorism: What You & Your Agency Can Do
Experts on anti-abortion extremists, militia groups, and other domestic
terrorist organizations will present tools for law enforcement to understand
these groups, their recruitment techniques, and the threat they present.
Role playing techniques will be used, and will focus on how state, local,
and federal law enforcement can form a coordinated response to domestic
terrorism threat management.
Preventing Gender Discrimination
Women police leaders and attorneys specializing in employment discrimination
will discuss recent discrimination judgments from Chicago and Santa Barbara,
including discussions of the sexual harassment, assignment discrimination,
promotional discrimination, gender hostility and retaliation aspects in
these cases. The case studies will be followed by an in-depth training
on how to use the NCWP's Self-Assessment Guide to prevent gender discrimination
and to avoid these costly lawsuits.
Preparing for Assessment Centers
Instead of relying on standard multiple choice tests and oral interviews,
many police departments are now using assessment centers as promotional
tools. This approach combines role-playing techniques and other methods
to test for the skills necessary to succeed in a higher-ranking position.
Our training program will help prepare you for taking an assessment center
or for becoming a rater in an assessment center. Learn how to successfully
compete in skills such as the In-Basket, Cooperative Group, Competitive
Group and One-on-One role-plays. Women who have taken this training report
increased scores on assessment centers.
Conducting a Human Trafficking Investigation
This full day session on human trafficking will offer participants the
detailed information necessary to identify, investigate and prosecute
human traffickers in their own communities. Experts from law enforcement,
government, and NGO's will discuss their experiences with successful prosecution,
and will provide advice on how local law enforcement can utilize the recently
passed Trafficking Victims Protection Act, as well as RICO and other laws,
to work towards eradication of human trafficking. Also addressed will
be how law enforcement can work with non-governmental agencies to provide
assistance for victims once they've been identified. This will be the
first time such a session has been offered to an audience of federal,
state, and local law enforcement.
Women and Policing Research Summit
Researchers, police practitioners, and others are invited to participate
in a historic research summit on the topic of women and policing. The
summit will provide an overview of cutting edge research in this field,
and will connect researchers with progressive police managers who can
support and assist their studies. Researchers will present a brief overview
of their work, and participants will then work together to integrate our
understanding of existing research in this area, identify gaps and priorities
for future research, discuss potential funding sources, and develop partnerships
for collaborative projects. The interactive summit will be structured
to generate research ideas, partnerships, energy, and momentum.
